Reiki Experience: Remote and In-Person
In September 2022, on my birthday, I was contacted by Nihada from Adelaide. Her son had been admitted to the ICU with multiple organ failure and sepsis. She shared with me that the medical team had exhausted all conventional treatments, leaving her with the only option of praying for her son’s recovery.
Knowing that Reiki has been offered as complementary support in intensive care, oncology and surgical settings in the USA, I felt it was worth offering alongside the medical team’s care. I had no idea what was possible.
This was an extraordinary situation — I had never previously offered Reiki to a patient in the intensive care unit, and I held no certainty about what, if anything, it might offer in these circumstances. However, I was willing to give it a go, and remained informed about her son’s progress, ensuring that Reiki was offered before, during, and after medical procedures.
With the support of 20 Reiki practitioners worldwide, the dedication of the extraordinary medical staff at the hospital, and Nihada’s relentless fight for her son’s life, he miraculously emerged from coma, just three days after an ICU specialist said the only thing left to do for him is pray. I was made aware of him coming out of coma when Nihada sent me a photo of her son awake. Today, he is alive with one of his doctors referring to him as a ‘miracle man.’ During his fight for life, Nihada’s son experienced over 40 hours of Reiki.
Reiki was offered here as complementary support alongside the medical team’s care. It is not presented as the cause of this outcome.
