Q1. What is Reiki?

Many people have not heard of Reiki or they are misinformed about the practice and its benefits. Unfairly judged and described as pseudoscience by Wikipedia, sits a remarkable transformative practice of the Japanese people, integrated into hospital settings worldwide.

Reiki is a 100 years old Japanese spiritual healing practice that helps you bring your mind, body and spirit into alignment with stress reduction being one of the many benefits of this spiritual practice.  Reiki used to be available only to closed societies in Japan until Reiki teachings were brought to Hawaii in 1930s, which eventually led to its spread to the Western World. 

Reiki is also referred to as The Japanese Art of Healing. 

Cleveland Clinic, a non-profit academic medical center, a leader in research, education and health information, describes Reiki as safe, gentle, non-invasive form of natural hands-on healing. 

St George Hospital , one of UK’s largest teaching hospitals defines Reiki as supplemental treatment that fosters your own healing powers.

National Institutes of Health, one of the world’s foremost medical research centres, classifies Reiki as a complementary approach to health. 

C. Norman Shealy, MD, pHD. founder of American Holistic Medical Association refers to Reiki as one of the leading safe Energy Medicine approaches.

Q3. Can Reiki help me?

Reiki can help anyone, even as an addition to one’s existing care, and here is why: Reiki is not symptom specific and it does not treat symptoms of distress or an illness, but instead it helps the person experiencing those symptoms. For reasons yet to be illuminated by science, Reiki encourages your nervous system to transition from the state of ‘fight and flight’ to ‘restoration and recovery’ where body’s self healing mechanisms run at their optimal levels – the state where self-healing is at its best.

When daily stressors persist continuously and you consistently feel under threat, as you navigate the fine line between your professional and personal life, your nervous system’s fight-or-flight reaction remains activated. The prolonged activation of the stress response system and excessive exposure to stress hormones puts you at higher risk of many health problems including but not limited to: anxiety, depression, digestive problems, headaches, muscle tension and pain, heart disease, heart attack, high blood pressure and stroke, sleep problems and problems with memory and focus.  How many times this year have you called in sick at work, experienced  fatigue or depressive feelings?

Reiki’s main goal is to promote a sense of balance within you. When your body finds balance, you experience better sleep, digestion, functionality, and an enhanced sense of well-being. By encouraging your system towards balance, Reiki can help you deal with your daily stressors with more calm and balance.

Some of the regenerative benefits of Reiki can be compared to the regenerative benefits of sleep. Sleep is a crucial time for the body to repair and regenerate itself on multiple levels, including physical, mental, and emotional healing processes. During sleep, the body enters different stages, including deep sleep or slow-wave sleep, where various physiological functions are optimised for restoration and recovery. Don’t you feel better and more peaceful after a great night of sleep? Many clients experience a profound sense of peace after completing their first Reiki session.

Q4. I am a sceptic, will it work for me?

You don’t have to believe in it to work,  it is a spiritual practice – you just have to experience it. Reiki is a stand alone balancing practice which shares similarities with mindfullness, meditation, tai chi and yoga as they all foster the cultivation of inner balance, self- awareness, and overall health benefits through practice. The key word here is : practice.

I used to be a sceptic, then I became very ill from chronic stress and took a leap of faith and gave it a try – have not looked back since.

Q5. Reiki in hospitals

According to International Association of Reiki Professionals, Reiki is one of the top three complementary in-patient therapies in U.S. hospitals with 60% of the top 25 America’s best hospitals providing formal and informal Reiki programs, and 67% believing it to be highly beneficial (source: https://iarp.org/reiki-clinical-setting/) with nurses and physicians consistently reporting that Reiki makes patients more relaxed, reduces stress, decreases need for pain and medication,  improves sleep and appetite and reduces unwanted effects of radiation and chemotherapy.  

Over 800 hospitals in the US offer Reiki to patients and staff including but not limited to:

  • Brigham & Women’s Hospital
  • Spaulding Rehab
  • Dana Farber Cancer Institute
  • Johns Hopkins
  • The Children’s Hospital –  Boston

According to Medical Reiki Works, non profit organisation founded to support research and education of Reiki in healthcare,  Reiki is used in hospital emergency rooms, pre-op, operating rooms, post op, oncology, cardiology, orthopaedics, and internal medicine.

As of 2020, 6 Australian hospitals have incorporated Reiki as part of patient’s holistic care. These include:

  • Fiona Stanley Hospital-Cancer Care in WA (Perth)
  • Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital in WA
  • St. John of God Subiaco Hospital Bunbury Clinic in WA
  • Albany Hospital in WA
  • J. W. Whittle Palliative Care Unit in TAS

This practice offers remarkable benefits and it merits inclusion in all hospitals, including prominent cancer centres, to support individuals in alleviating their pain and suffering.

Q6. What is the difference between Reiki, Clinical Reiki and Medical Reiki?

In earlier days, I was led to believe that ‘Clinical Reiki’ and ‘Medical Reiki’ are something different from Reiki but, I’ve discovered  that it is not the case at all.  There’s no distinction between Reiki, ‘Clinical Reiki’ and ‘Medical Reiki’. Some practitioners may suggest otherwise, promoting ‘Clinical Reiki’ and ‘Medical Reiki’ as a specialised form. However, these are merely marketing labels. Whether termed ‘Medical Reiki’, ‘Clinical Reiki’ or simply ‘Reiki’, the practice remains the same – a powerful balancing practice for self-healing and improved well-being.

Those who use the term ‘Medical Reiki,’ or ‘Clinical’ Reiki’,  may attract clients seeking assistance with health or medical concerns, while those that use the term ‘Reiki’ open the door to anyone interested in self-healing.

It is important to note that you don’t have to be sick to benefit from this practice, some clients use it just to rebalance and feel calmer when dealing with their daily stressors.  Reiki is one unique practice with different labels attached to it, and anyone can benefit from it.

We may however reserve the term ‘Medical Reiki’ for practitioners who incorporate Reiki into medical settings, but the essence of the practice remains unchanged.

Q8. What qualifications or experience do you have that could support me even further on my wellness journey?

I understand the power of utilising mind-body practices to facilitate life changes, drawing from my own experiences in overcoming various illnesses and fully recovering from a nervous breakdown. I share these practices with others to help them enhance their wellbeing or guide them on their own journey of self-healing.

I am Internationally Certified: Reiki Practitioner at Master-Teacher Level, Results Coach, HeartMath Certified Mentor – Resilience Coach, and a graduate of Curable Health for Chronic Pain, Think and Grow Education, and Authentic Education.

I use Traditional Japanese Reiki, coherence techniques, mindfulness, meditation &  neuroscience guided transformational coaching techniques to help you reduce overwhelm and elevate your wellbeing.

My unique set of skills and my coaching programs are the result of all practices I have discovered on my own healing journey that have helped me completely transform my life, and helped many individuals along the way.  Some of the techniques I use are adopted by hospitals across the globe, NASA and US Military.

I am not a medical professional, but someone who has triumphed over her own struggles by taking a leap of faith to learn and persistently practice techniques that have helped me tap into my inner strength and harness the power of my mind to help me achieve balance becoming  symptom free of all illnesses and conditions I was diagnosed with.

Q9 . Do you work with individuals who have health conditions or take prescription medications?

Yes, I work with individuals who have a wide range of health conditions. My approach to healing is holistic, meaning I consider the physical, emotional, and spiritual aspects of each individual’s well-being. My techniques are gentle, natural and safe. Anyone can benefit from mind-body medicine, Reiki, and connecting to their heart’s intuition.

I guide and empower individuals on their healing journey. Whether someone is recovering from burnout, surgery, or dealing with a specific health condition, I tailor my approach to meet their unique needs and goals. My goal is to provide a safe and nurturing space for healing and growth, regardless of one’s circumstances or condition.

You are encouraged to discuss Reiki with your GP before trying it out, and it is highly recommended to share your outcomes and experiences with your GP afterward.

Q10. Is Reiki a replacement for psychological or medical care?

Reiki is not intended as a replacement for medical or psychological care. Instead, it is considered a complementary therapy that can work alongside conventional medical care.

Reiki focuses on promoting relaxation, stress reduction, and overall well-being, which can support the body’s natural healing processes. It is important to continue any prescribed medical treatments and consult with healthcare professionals regarding any health concerns.

Q11. What happens in a Reiki session?

Reiki practice is very simple. 

Post consultation, when you experience your treatment in person, you’ll lie fully clothed on a treatment table, or will be seated in a chair.  Reiki treatment will be  facilitated by using gentle hand placements just above the areas of pain, discomfort, or imbalance identified during the consultation.

When you experience a remote Reiki session, you will be guided through your treatment while you are seated comfortably at your location.

Q12. What do clients feel during a Reiki session?

During a Reiki session, many clients experience deep relaxation, occasionally drifting into sleep and awakening with a profound sense of peace. Some achieve this state of tranquility through repeated sessions. Certain clients notice physical sensations like a gentle rumble in their stomach—a sign that the body has entered the ‘rest and digest’ recovery mode. Sensations come and go. Some clients feel little, some feel quite a lot, but how much you feel is not an indication of how successful the session is, it is just your body’s healing response to stress release initiated through a very deep relaxation. 

Q13. How many sessions will I need?

The first session usually brings improvements, and the benefits grow with repeated sessions. The number of sessions depends on many factors including your daily stressors, what your body needs at the time, and whether you are dealing with chronic or acute condition.  I will provide recommendations on number of sessions that would be beneficial for you.  On small ocassions,  one session is all you may need, but on average,  3-4 sessions encourage remarkable improvements to one’s wellbeing.

Q14. What is included in KickStarter Session?

Your decision to start your transformative journey with me should be free from guilt and any doubt. This session is your opportunity to connect with me, discuss your current challenges, and have a clearer understanding of how I can help support your transition towards greater wellbeing.

In this session you will experience non-invasive holistic techniques including Japanese Healing Art of Reiki & science validated HeartMath Quick Coherence Technique and witness firsthand their calming effects.

During your Kickstarter Session, you will receive personalised care aimed at addressing specific concerns or symptoms you may be experiencing. The session typically begins with a consultation after which you’ll be invited to relax on the massage table or in a chair.

Reiki treatment will be facilitated by using gentle hand placements just above the areas of pain, discomfort, or imbalance identified during the consultation.

If you are experiencing Reiki session remotely, you will be guided through the session with simple instructions.

The session concludes with a brief discussion and recommendations on any necessary follow-up appointments to track your progress and adjust your treatment plan as needed.

 

Q15. What is included in Harmony Breakthrough Package?

A single Reiki session marks the start of your wellbeing journey, but experiencing four sessions is a whole new level of transformation. This comprehensive four-week mini-program is designed to deliver remarkable results. As you delve into Reiki, particularly when facing overwhelm, the initial session serves as an introduction to its health benefits, marking noticeable improvements in your well-being. The benefits grow with each successive session, leaving you in a significantly improved state compared to when you began your journey.

The program takes place over four weeks, but if it is an urgency, it can take place over two weeks – I will provide you with guidance.

Harmony Breakthrough  Package includes a KickStarter Session, followed by three follow-up sessions.

Q16. I'm unsure about committing to Harmony Breakthrough Package. Can I try just one session to see if it's right for me?

Absolutely! I completely understand the importance of feeling comfortable and confident before committing to a program. Kickstarter session one session is designed to help you experience firsthand the benefits of our work together. This introductory session will give you a taste of what to expect and allow you to see if it resonates with you. Afterward, we can discuss your experience and determine the best course of action moving forward. My goal is to ensure that you feel comfortable, empowered and supported every step of the way.

If you decide to proceed with Harmony & Wellbeing Package at the conclusion of the session, the cost of that session will be deducted from the total package price.
